Christina Kateri's musical roots trace back to a quaint village in the picturesque country of Slovenia, where her mother was born at the end of WWII. Due to immense suffering and abuse at the hands of the local communist regime, the family immigrated to the U.S. by way of Austria, and carried their musical traditions with them. Growing up in a family of musicians, Christina developed a deep love of singing at an early age and has fond memories sitting around the piano as a child, listening to her grandfather play traditional melodies from his homeland.
Following in her grandfather and mother's footsteps, Christina took piano lessons for a decade from a private teacher in southeast Michigan, before turning her focus to voice in high school.
As a first generation American, Christina was thrilled to combine her love of music with other cultures and tour internationally with Up With People in 2000. With lead singing roles as well as support vocals in the Broadway-style original production, A Common Beat, she was able to share a message of peace and understanding through song and stage in over seven languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Hebrew and Japanese.
With a desire to better understand the business side of the music industry, Christina attended the prestigious Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she received her BBA with an emphasis in Music Business and graduated with honors in 2006. She spent the better part of six years doing shows in Tennessee and Michigan with her singer/songwriter brother, Joe, while simultaneously working in marketing for Warner Bros.
Heavily influenced by her mother and Italian father's love for the sounds of Motown, including Diana Ross and the Supremes, Aretha Franklin & the Temptations, as well as acts like the Beach Boys, the Everly Brothers, the Ronettes, Etta James, Louis Armstrong, Elvis and others, Christina moved back to “the Mitten” to pursue a career in Detroit.
Working as a full-time musician throughout Michigan, Cleveland, Chicago, Nashville, New York and soon, Brisbane, Australia, Christina has participated in everything from solo work to a 14-piece band to a 50 member choir, and loves to entertain at private functions with her 8-piece, the Christina Kateri Band. She has done extensive studio work with artists in Detroit and Nashville, and is currently playing dates and doing sessions for multiple original acts in the greater Detroit area. In addition to her projects in cover bands and with original artists, she enjoys singing at three churches in southeast Michigan.
With a healthy repertoire across every genre, Christina Kateri is thrilled to use her passion and experience to provide music for any occasion:
